EYEBROW: Meet the Engineer
About Third Rock Engineering
When you call Third Rock Engineering, Andrew Hruby, P.E., picks up. Not a receptionist. Not a project coordinator. The engineer who will walk your site, run the calculations, and sign the stamped drawings.
About
Meet Andrew Hruby, P.E.
Andrew is a licensed Professional Engineer with more than 20 years of experience across residential, industrial, and physical security projects throughout Massachusetts.
He started his career in the field, not behind a desk, which shaped how he approaches every project: with a focus on local permitting expectations, real site conditions, budget realities, and schedules that don’t move.
Most of Third Rock’s homeowner work centers on additions, structural inspections, foundation evaluations, and load-bearing wall projects across MetroWest Boston.
Andrew also handles industrial structural engineering and protective-design work for institutional clients, including facility hardening, blast engineering, and physical security consulting.
He founded Third Rock Engineering after watching the same problem repeat itself: clients paying for engineering and never once speaking to the engineer.
Experience
What 20 Years in the Field Actually Means for Your Project
Experience isn’t a line on a resume. It’s what happens when your drawings meet the real world.
Andrew has seen what happens when engineering ignores field conditions. When a design is technically sound but impossible to build. When a permit gets rejected because nobody accounted for how a town’s building department actually reviews submissions.
That experience shows up directly in your project:
- Drawings prepared to your municipality’s specific submission requirements, not patched at the last minute
- Structural assessments grounded in actual site conditions, not standard assumptions
- Problems identified before construction starts, not after the contractor calls with a change order
Why Third Rock Engineering Exists
Most firms are built for volume. Work moves through layers of staff. A senior engineer reviews things at the end. Clients spend months on a project and never speak with the person making decisions.
Third Rock works differently. Every engagement is handled directly by the same engineer who visited your site, understands your constraints, and knows what your building department expects to see. No junior staff handling the details. No handoffs.
That means faster answers, fewer surprises, and a single point of accountability from initial consultation through stamped deliverables.
